Dear Access Board:
I and many other members of the Virginia Association of
the Blind have work for years for awareness of and to convince city councils of
the need of audible pedestrian signals and tactile warning devices for the
safety of blind partially blind, otherwise disabled, children, and elderly
persons. I support the need for the audible traffic signals especially now in
the age of the electric super quiet cars. I have had my cane hit by a vehicle,
while crossing a street, and it is no pleasure. Please help to save our life and
our sanity and save our audible signals. Sincerely,
Alice Malbone
Members of The Virginia Association of the Blind, Inc.
have been working for several years creating awareness and convincing city
managers of the needs of the needs of audible traffic signals and tactile
warning signals, and we were instrumental in getting the "backup beepers"
installed in large vehicles in the state of Virginia . Our members feel feel
that all of these warning devices are definitely important, and necessary, not
only for persons who are blind but also they are helpful for other disabilities,
children and elderly. This is a vote yes for audible pedestrian devices for the
organization and a definite yes for me personally.
Sincerely,
Alice Malbone, Executive Director
The Virginia Association of the Blind
