REAC Membership (All Committees)

Full Membership List -- (Word - 103kb) (PDF - 34 kb)

The Race and Ethnic Advisory Committees (REAC) began in 1970, with most of the current committees in place by the 1980 census. The Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander (NHOPI) Advisory Committee is the newest committee, established in 1999 as a result of OMB-Directive 15.

The Secretary of Commerce determines final Advisory Committee appointments. Currently, five separate race and ethnic committees advise the Census Bureau on decennial issues: the African American, American Indian and Alaska Native, Asian, Hispanic, and Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander Advisory Committees. Each of the five committee charters provides for nine members. REAC members represent academia, non-profit organizations, tribal leadership and community-based organizations. This committee has no ex-officio members (with the exception of a representative from the 2010 Census Advisory Committee).
