Labor Department Lauds House Passage of the Job Training Improvement Act
WASHINGTON Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training
Emily Stover DeRocco issued the following statement on the House of Representative's
passage of the Job Training Improvement Act:
“I want to commend the House for acting to better equip American workers
for 21st century success by passing the Job Training Improvement Act.
“The President has made doubling the number of workers trained a priority
of his job training reform. This important legislation takes significant
steps toward that goal and is the best vehicle for further improvements to
the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).
“The Administration looks forward to working with the Congress to incorporate
the President's ‘WIA Plus' reforms in the final bill. By offering Governors
enhanced flexibility to customize training in exchange for greater accountability,
the ‘WIA Plus' menu of options would allow states to meet the unique economic
needs of their communities, regions, and most of all, their workers.”
