Frank Welte September 10, 2002

My name is Frank Welte, and I live in San Carlos, California. I am the president of the San Mateo County Council of the Blind, a local organization of blind and vision impaired people.

I support the Access Board's efforts to promote the use of accessible pedestrian signals and detectable warnings to make the built environment more hospitable for blind pedestrians. Since I'm sure you've all ready heard the arguments on both sides of this issue I'll spare you yet another repetition. There is just one point I wish to add. You can take it from me, as a leader in the local blind community, that blind folks with whom I am acquainted generally support these products. Anybody claiming that there isn't strong support for these things in the blind community is either misinformed or dishonest.
