I am not a visually impaired person but I find the audible crossing signals to be very distracting when attempting to cross at a crosswalk. The first time I heard it I didn't know weather the signal meant to cross or not to cross even though I saw the visual walk signal. The piercing sound scared me and made me hesitate and question weather I should walk or take cover. Sound such as this,  seemed more like a warning than a welcome to cross a busy street. I can only imagine what a visually impaired person must think and how confusing it must also be. I work with the visually impaired and they are provided with sufficient tools and training alleviating the need for such technology. I strongly oppose the further installation of these devices. Thank you for allowing me to comment.
