Note: The Access Board published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on September 8, 1992 (57 FR 41006) proposing to amend the reach range requirements for accessible automated teller machines. This rulemaking may result in a revision to ADAAG 4.34 (Automated Teller Machines).

EXCEPTION: Drive-up-only automated teller machines are not required to comply with the reach and clear floor space requirements of 4.27.2, 4.27.3 and 4.34.3.
     
4.34.1 Accessible Route: Is each accessible ATM located on an accessible route? (Use Form 12: Building Lobbies and Corridors)      
4.34.3; 4.27.2 Clear Floor Space: Is there clear floor space at least 30 by 48 inches, which allows a parallel approach by a wheelchair user?      
4.34.2; 4.27.3 Controls: Is the highest operable part of the controls within both forward and side reach ranges for wheelchair users (48 inches)?      
    Are the controls operable with one hand, and without tight grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist?      
    Is the force required to activate the controls no greater than 5 lbf?
