Intelligent Transportation Systems Caucus

The Intelligent Transportation Systems Caucus was formed in 2002 by 30 members of Congress to educate and inform their colleagues about the benefits of intelligent transportation systems. The launch of the Caucus came as the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee began to hold hearings on the reauthorization of TEA-21, the six-year transportation authorization bill, which expired in September 2003. While TEA-21 facilitated the successful deployment of ITS in many areas, the caucus understands that there is much left to be done to ensure nationwide deployment.

The group, the Intelligent Transportation Systems Caucus, is working to focus attention in the House of Representatives on "intelligent transportation systems," or ITS, which are technologies with significant applications for relieving traffic congestion, reducing accidents and increasing homeland security.

Co-Chairs

  • Mike Rogers (R-MI)
  • Ellen Tauscher (D-CA)
