Labor Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the state of America's workforce. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao has prepared a short video to observe Labor Day 2003. Folowing is the text of the video:
"In the past year, this administration has made tremendous strides in improving the health, safety, and pension security of America's working men and women. In fact, injury and illness rates for workers have dropped to their lowest levels since the government began collecting statistics.
"President Bush and his administration are very focused on strengthening the economic recovery so that everyone who wants to work can find a job. We have so many programs to provide immediate assistance to jobseekers so that they know that they are not alone.
"There are tremendous training opportunities and transition resources available, especially in the high growth areas of the economy where many employers are looking for workers."
