2001 Green Book Presentation. The 2001 edition of A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets (2001 Green Book) was published in June, 2001. This presentation was prepared by FHWA to highlight the changes and additions made to the Green Book since the previous edition. FHWA has adopted the 2001 Green Book as the minimum design standard to be used for projects on the National Highway System. The final rule adopting the 2001 Green Book was published in the Federal Register on Feb. 12, 2002 (PDF Version, 42 kb ). (Slides 26 and 86 updated on May 1, 2002)

Welcome to the Office of Program Administration. We are responsible for a variety of activities related to the Federal-aid program. Examples of these activities include:
Providing technical assistance on questions regarding the eligible use of Federal-aid highway funds.
Providing technical assistance in the development, analysis, and interpretation of highway legislation; evaluating and implementing new legislation relating to program areas of responsibility.
Developing national policies and, in cooperation with the States, developing national standards, criteria, and guides related to highway design. Providing technical advice on highway design to the FHWA and other Federal, State, and local highway agencies.
Providing technical assistance and reports on use of Federal-aid funds in such categories as Interstate, Interstate substitution, discretionary, emergency relief, and demonstration projects.
Providing technical assistance and guidance on contract administration issues including contract provisions, procedures, policies, and requirements prescribed in Title 23, Code of Federal Regulations.
Providing technical assistance and guidance in the areas of utility accommodations, value engineering, and employment of consultants for engineering services.
Collecting data on cost trend indices and labor and materials usage on Federal-aid highway construction contracts.
