"One-Stop Shopping" Opportunity about Workplace Laws for the North Shore's Small Business Owners -- Salem, Mass. -- Sept. 24

Salem, Mass. -- Small business owners throughout Massachusetts North Shore who wish to learn about occupational safety and health, overtime, child labor and other Federal labor regulations that apply to small businesses have an opportunity to meet informally with U.S. Labor Department officials on September 24.

Representatives from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Wage and Hour Division will be staffing a booth at the 2002 Small Business Financial and Technical Assistance Expo, being held that day from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Enterprise Center at Salem State College. They will be available to answer questions, supply compliance assistance and provide informational materials about their programs.

Attendees will be able to ask questions and receive information about a variety of Federal laws that apply to small business, including:

  • The Occupational Safety and Health Act
  • The Fair Labor Standards Act, including minimum wage and overtime
  • Child labor regulations and the "YouthRules!" website
  • The Family and Medical Leave Act
  • The Employee Polygraph Protection Act

The Small Business Financial and Technical Assistance Expo is sponsored by the Enterprise Center at Salem State College. The Expo is designed to establish a link between technical assistance providers, lenders, consultants, professional groups and businesses on the North Shore and create awareness of available small business services. Exhibitors will include small businesses, lenders and various private and governmental agencies that service the North Shore's small business community.
