Research Project: NON-FUNDED COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT WITH THE AGRICULTURAL MARKETING SERVICE (AMS) TO STORE PVP PLANT MATERIAL Project Number: 5402-21000-007-10
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 01, 2006
End Date: Sep 30, 2011

Objective:
The purpose of this Agreement is to establish a framework for the preservation of voucher specimens of cultivars issued Certificates of Protection under the Plant Variety Protection Act (Public Law 91-577) at the National Center for Genetic Resources Preservation (NCGRP), located in Fort Collins, CO.

Approach:
The Plant Variety Protection Office (PVPO) issues plant variety protection for new cultivars and the voucher specimens for these cultivars are sent to NCGRP for preservation during the 20 years the cultivars are covered under Plant Variety Protection (PVP). Upon expiry of the PVP, the voucher specimens become the property of the National Plant Germplasm System. Activities are coordinated between the PVPO and NCGRP for the safe storage and release of the cultivars.
