IT Exchange Program

The Information Technology Exchange Program (ITEP) was authorized by the E-Government Act of 2002 and is designed to allow exceptional individuals from the Federal IT workforce and exceptional individuals from the private sector IT workforce to participate in an exchange program that enables both sides to share critical IT expertise.

Federal IT workers are able to be exposed to private industry's best practices management, while private sector employees have an opportunity to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the challenges Federal agencies face in meeting the growing demand for government services.

The IT Exchange Program is administered by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), and detailed information on the Program is available from the OPM Website.

Commerce’s specific requirements for participation in the ITEP are spelled out in our ITEP Plan. Content requirements for the three-party agreement required to assign an individual into or out of the Department are provided in our Detail Agreement Template.
