Research Project: EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES ASSOCIATED WITH AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH

Location: Forage and Livestock Production Unit

2006 Annual Report

4d.Progress report.
This report serves to document research conducted under a nonfunded cooperative agreement between ARS and Redlands Community College. The agreement enables students at the college to participate in research directed at developing more sustainable forage and livestock production systems, and provides cooperation in management of the college's small beef herd. Additional details can be found in the report for the parent project 6218-31630-004-00D, entitled Improving Stocker Production in Sustainable Grazing Systems. Under the agreement, a student participated in a research project that documented the performance of pure-bred and cross-bred calves of selected breeds as stockers grazing conventional and novel sequences of forages. Data from the project will be used to match beef cattle genetics to specific forage production systems. The student learned how to follow a project protocol and proper techniques in the collection of experimental data.
