Export DataThe Census Bureau, in collaboration with the Bureau of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, collects information on the export shipments of U.S. companies. This information, reported on the Shippers Export Declaration, through the Automated Export System (AES), or the Internet version of AES, is used to produce official export trade statistics, as well as other administrative purposes. Unlike every other information collection activity conducted at the Census Bureau, information collected on exports may, under limited circumstances, be exempt from the confidentiality protections of Title 13. Section 301 (g) establishes a singular exception to Title 13, authorizing the Secretary of Commerce to share identifiable export information with other organizations if disclosing these data would be in the national interest. |
