Federal Wage-Law Agency Announces Public Availability Schedule

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Labor Department's Wage and Hour Division has announced that an investigator will be available in Kokomo, Marion and Wabash each month to provide service to workers and employers who need information and assistance with a variety of federal laws covering the workplace.

Wage and Hour Division Investigator Tom Gondek will be available in person at the Marion Workforce Development office, Marion, on the second Monday of every month and every Friday at the 58 West Market, Wabash office (219) 563-8766. Investigator Dennis DeMay will be available in the Kokomo Workforce Development office on the first Monday of each month.

The Wage and Hour Division is responsible for the enforcement of numerous federal labor laws including the Fair Labor Standards Act (minimum wage/overtime pay law), child labor regulations, Family and Medical Leave Act, Migrant and Seasonal Workers Protection Act, Polygraph Protection Act, and several government contract prevailing wage laws.

Gondek replaces retiring Wage and Hour Investigator Marcos Ponce who enforced federal labor laws in the nine county area surrounding Marion for the past 21 years. During this period, Ponce conducted over 1,500 investigations recovering an estimated $1.5 million in back wages for area workers.
