U.S. LABOR DEPARTMENT FILES COMPLAINT AGAINST INDUSTRIAL FLOORING FIRMS IN MUNDELEIN, ILL., ALLEGING WAGE VIOLATIONS

Chicago — The U.S. Department of Labor has filed a complaint against industrial flooring firms in Mundelein, Ill., alleging federal overtime pay violations.

The firms named in the complaint were Great Lakes Shot Blasting and Industrial Flooring Inc. and Great Lakes Floor Coatings LTD. Robert Parisoli, Jr., doing business as Great Lakes Shot Blasting and Industrial Flooring, was also named in the complaint. The firms are at 21227 Commercial Drive, Mundelein.

The complaint was filed in U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, in Chicago under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The Labor Department asked the court to enjoin the firm from future overtime and record keeping violations. The department is seeking back wages for workers and liquidated damages equal to the total back wages. The violations allegedly occurred since January 1997.

Wage and Hour District Director Dennis McInerney in Chicago said, "This case exemplifies the Labor Department's efforts to ensure that vulnerable workers are properly paid."

The Labor Department's Wage and Hour Division enforces the Fair Labor Standards Act. The federal law sets a minimum wage of $5.15 for most workers and generally requires overtime pay for hours worked over 40 in any workweek. The law also requires employers to keep accurate time and payroll records.

The legal action follows an investigation by the Wage and Hour Division, 230 South Dearborn, Chicago, Ill.
