THE HOLDING COMPANY INC. AND W.B. STORAGE ASSOCIATES I PAY BACK WAGES OF $7,266 TO 13 EMPLOYEES FOR ALLEGED OVERTIME VIOLATIONS
Locations in Indianapolis, Ind.; Columbus and Delaware, Ohio
Chicago — The Holding Company Inc., a self storage firm with five locations in Indianapolis, Ind., and W.B. Storage Associates I, operator of six storage facilities in Columbus and Delaware, Ohio, have paid back wages of $7,266 to 13 employees to settle overtime violations alleged by the U.S. Department of Labor.
The Labor Department reached a settlement with the firm after filing a civil action in U.S. District Court, Southern District of Indiana, Indianapolis Division. The department alleged that the firm failed to pay overtime pay and failed to keep proper payroll records. The company denied the allegations. The violations allegedly occurred during July 1993 to May 1995.
Wage and Hour District Director Richard Malloy in Columbus, said, "This case exemplifies the Labor Department's efforts to protect vulnerable low wage workers."
Wage and Hour District Director Connie Klipsch, Indianapolis, said, "We will use every means at our disposal to ensure that workers receive all wages to which they are entitled."
The Holding Company, Inc., does business as The Hold Self Storage and Stor and Save Self Storage at 7151 E. 86th St., 7009 E. 56th St., 1430 Illinois, 7715 E. 42nd and 6901 Hawthorne Drive, in Indianapolis. The Labor Department recovered back wages for employees that worked at locations on 56th St., E. 86th, and Hawthorne Ave.
W.B. Storage Associates I does business as Stor and Save and Self Storage at 3569 E. Main St., 3171 S. High St., 2160 Innis Rd., and 3300 W. Broad St., 810 E. Cooke Rd., Columbus, Ohio.
The firm also has a location at 2021 SR Rt. 23 North, Delaware, Ohio. The Labor Department recovered back wages for employees that worked at locations on W. Broad St., Innis Rd., and E. Cooke Rd. in Columbus.
The Wage and Hour Division of the Employment Standards Administration (ESA), U.S. Labor Department, enforces the FLSA. The law sets a federal minimum wage of $4.75 for most workers and generally requires overtime pay for hours worked over 40 in any workweek. The FLSA also requires employers to keep adequate time and payroll records and sets standards for the employment of minors.
The legal action resulted from investigations by the Wage and Hour District Offices in Columbus, Ohio, and Indianapolis, Ind. In Columbus, the Wage and Hour Office, 200 N. High, Rm. 646, is supervised by Richard J. Malloy, district director. The Indianapolis, Ind., Wage and Hour District Office, 429 N. Pennsylvania, Room 403, is supervised by Connie J. Klipsch, district director.
