KENNY ROGERS ROASTERS, INDIANAPOLIS, PAYS $9,675 PENALTY FOR ALLEGED CHILD LABOR VIOLATIONS

Chicago —Kenny Rogers Roasters, 2418 E. County Line Rd. South, Indianapolis, has paid $9,675 in civil money penalties for alleged child labor violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). A total of 13 minors were involved.

Following an investigation by the Wage and Hour Division, the U.S. Department of Labor alleged that the company employed four 15-year-olds in cooking and baking in violation of the occupations standards for persons under 16. One 16-year-old allegedly used a bakery-type mixer, an occupation prohibited to persons under 18 due to the hazards inherent in the work.

In addition, twelve 14- and 15-year-olds were employed later than or more hours than allowed by law. Federal child labor laws restrict the hours and times 14- and 15-year-olds may work. They may work no later than 7:00 p.m. (9:00 p.m. June 1 through Labor Day). They may work no more than three hours on school days and eight hours on nonschool days and no more than 18 hours during school weeks and 40 hours during nonschool weeks.

The investigation was conducted by the Wage and Hour District Office, 429 N. Pennsylvania St., Rm. 403, Indianapolis, under the supervision of Connie Klipsch, district director.
