TWO CHICAGO FIRMS PAY $6,000 IN PENALTIES FOR ALLEGED CHILD LABOR VIOLATIONS FOR ALLEGED CHILD LABOR VIOLATIONS
Chicago Two Chicago-area Happy Foods have paid $6,000 in civil money penalties for alleged child labor violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the U.S. Department of Labor announced today.
Happy Foods, 6415 N. Central Ave., Chicago, paid $5,000 and Happy Foods, 6783 Northwest Highway, Chicago, paid $1,000 for alleged violations involving a total of twelve minors.
The penalties were assessed following an investigation by the Labor Department's Wage and Hour Division. The department alleged that the minors were employed in violation of the hours and time standards and the occupations standards of the child labor regulations.
The child labor regulations of the FLSA detail hours that may be worked by persons under 16 years of age and specify occupations which minors under 18 may not perform due to the hazards inherent in the work.
The investigation was conducted by the Wage and Hour District Office, 230 S. Dearborn, Room 412, Chicago, under the supervision of Jules Van Rengen, district director.
