1998 State and County Files and Description


The 1998 state and county estimate files only contain data -- no labels, no table headers, no titles. A description of the contents of the files can be found below or in the file "README" in the file directory.

Access the state and county data files for 1998


I.    File Organization:

    The files in the estmod98 FTP directory contain estimates of poverty and income
    for income year 1998. There is one FTP file for each state (or US) with data for
    ALL the 1998 statistics.  Additionally, there is also one file that includes the
    data for the US and each state and county. On the "Tables for States and Counties
    by Income Year and Statistic" page, for the 1998 income year, there is one table
    for each statistic for each state (with its counties) and for the US (with all
    the states).


II.   File Names

        est98ALL.dat      (for US and all states and counties)
        est98US.dat       (for US with state data [but no county data])
        est98_[STATE].dat (for state with county data)

        where [STATE] = standard two-letter postal abbreviations.

       92- 99    Estimate of related children age 5-17 in families in
                   poverty
      101-108    90% confidence interval lower bound of estimate of

      110-117    90% confidence interval upper bound of estimate of
                   related children age 5-17 in families in poverty
      119-122    Estimated percent of related children age 5-17 in
                   families in poverty
      124-127    90% confidence interval lower bound of estimate of percent

          NOTE:  Columns 155-192 will be blank for all county-level
                 records.  These data are only available at the
                 national and state-level.

      171-177    90% confidence interval upper bound of
                   estimate of people under age 5 in poverty
      179-182    Estimated percent of people under age 5 in poverty
