Research Project:
INTERGRATION OF REMOTELY SENSED SNOW COVERAGE EXTENT MEASUREMENTS WITH A SNOWMELT RUNOFF MODEL
Location: Hydrology and Remote Sensing Laboratory
Project Number: 1265-13610-027-32
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 25, 2003
End Date: Jul 30, 2008
Objective:
Develop strategies for the efficient merging of remotely sensed data with snowmelt runoff models.
Approach:
Remotely sensed estimates of snow coverage extent will be compared with distributed predictions of snow extent within a snow accumulation model. Statistical techniques will be developed that allow for the detection of instances in which observation differ statistically from model predictions. Calibration strategies that attempt to eliminate these differences and improve snowmelt runoff predictions-by adjusting model parameters will be explored.
