Fish Consumption Advisories

Contaminants, such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and mercury, have been found in various fish species in rivers throughout the Columbia River Basin. To ensure the continued good health of the citizens of the Columbia River Basin, the states issue fish consumption guidance for specific fish species in certain waters within their states. Fish consumption advisories may be issued to protect the general public or specifically to protect sensitive populations such as women of childbearing age, nursing mothers, pregnant women, and children.
