Research Project: SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF THE NORTH AMERICAN PLANT COLLECTIONS CONSORTIUM

Location: Floral and Nursery Plants Research Unit

Project Number: 1230-21000-049-05
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Nov 27, 2006
End Date: Sep 30, 2011

Objective:
This project will focus on the development of a national collection of ornamental plant germplasm. This program known as the North American Plant Collection Consortium(NAPCC) coordinated by the American Public Garden Association in collaboration with the U.S. National Arboretum.

Approach:
Identify botanical gardens and arboreta in North America with outstanding quality collections of documented ornamental plants for inclusion in the North American Plant Collection Consortium. Review those institutions and collections to be certain they qualify to be a member. The NAPCC program will compliment the Agricultural Research Service Woody Plant Germplasm Repository and the National Plant Germplasm System and bring together the data from these organizations to provide a more complete inventory of germplasm collections in North America.
