Research Project: DETERMINING ATMOSPHERIC LOADINGS OF AGROCHEMICALS AND OTHER ORGANIC POLLUTANTS TO THE EVERGLADES AND THE GREATER SOUTH FLORIDA BASIN

Location: Environmental Management and Byproduct Utilization Laboratory

2004 Annual Report

4.What were the most significant accomplishments this past year?
This report serves to document research conducted under a Specific Cooperative Agreement between the ARS-Environmental Quality Laboratory and Dr. Bruce Schaeffer of the Tropical Research and Education Center, University of Florida, Homestead, FL. Additional details of research can be found in the report for the parent project in the CRIS 1265-12220-003-00D entitled, "Atmospheric Processes of Agricultural Pollutants that Affect Air and Water Quality." This project provided technical support for collection and preparation of samples and for installation and maintenance of sampling equipment. Changes in local cultivation practices were noted. During the last year, this cooperative agreement was expanded into the Everglades National Park to determine atmospheric deposition fluxes of currently-used pesticides to this sensitive ecosystem.
