Bill Piatt Named GSA's Chief Information OfficerGSA # 9588 WASHINGTON, DC - Bill Piatt will become the new Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) effective June 15. He replaces Dr. Shereen Remez, who will move to a new position at GSA as Chief Knowledge Officer. "GSA will benefit from Bill Piatt's experience handling the technical requirements of large organizations and his ability to understand that it is always people who make technology work," said GSA Administrator Dave Barram. Piatt came to GSA in February after a distinguished career in the public and private sectors. He currently serves as the CIO of GSA's Public Buildings Service, where he focuses on technology and the people that make it happen. "The successful implementation of any information system depends at least 70% on human factors," said Piatt. "The work must always be technically sound, but most often users will define it as ?cessful' only if the system has the right ?tural fit' with the organization." Piatt most recently served as the Peace Corps' first CIO and the Associate Director for Management. In this capacity, Piatt was also responsible for the relocation of Peace Corps headquarters. During the relocation, he was a customer of GSA's Integrated Solutions, a program that provides full-service office solutions to federal agencies and district congressional offices. He spent 14 years total on several assignments with the Peace Corps, notably Piatt gained technical experience as a Marketing Representative for IBM, the General Manager for North American Operations for the Swiss medical robotics firm Tecan, and as project manager on Labat-Anderson's contract to establish and implement a database for a USAID private sector development project covering 26 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Piatt will begin his duties as CIO on June 15. Originally from Jackson, MS, he lives in Arlington, VA, with his wife, Anne, and two sons. He holds an MBA from Duke University and a CIO Certificate from the National Defense University. Index of News Releases
