GSA Awards FirstGov Usability Contract to UserWorks of Silver Spring, MDGSA # 9934 March 15, 2002
UserWorks, a firm that specializes in user-centered design and usability engineering, will conduct focus groups and usability testing on www.FirstGov.gov to gain customer reactions and feedback to the federal government's official online gateway. UserWorks will also develop Web site recommendations and templates that the GSA will use to refine and improve the FirstGov Web site. Using its own usability lab, its own database of Internet users for testing, and considerable experience in usability and information technology, UserWorks will conduct FirstGov focus groups and usability testing. They will focus on FirstGov.gov's three customer groups�citizens, businesses and government�to gain information on how people use the site to find government information, transactions and services. FirstGov is the official gateway to online federal government transactions, services, and information. Customer gateways for citizens, businesses and government were introduced at the most recent redesign of FirstGov.gov that was launched by Vice President Cheney. GSA is a centralized federal procurement and property management agency created by Congress to improve government efficiency and help federal agencies better serve the public. It acquires, on behalf of federal agencies, office space, equipment, telecommunications, information technology, supplies and services. GSA, comprised of 14,000 associates, provides services and solutions for the office operations of over 1 million federal workers located in 8,300 government -owned and leased buildings in 1,600 U.S. communities.
