GSA Invites Federal and State Agencies To Learn About Section 508 of the Rehabilitation ActGSA #9719 August 15, 2000 Washington, DC - On behalf the Federal Information Technology Accessibility Initiative, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) is sponsoring procurement forums in nine cities over the next six months to help Federal and State procurement officials better understand how Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act will affect the procurement of electronic and information technology. Registration can be done on the Internet at the Section 508 website -- http://www.section508.gov . Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act requires that all Federal agencies ensure that their technology is accessible to people with disabilities. Each forum will address considerations in developing, procuring, maintaining and using electronic and information technology covered under section 508. Forums are scheduled in the following cities: Austin, TX -- August 29 at the Hyatt Regency Austin The agenda for each forum is: The Federal IT Accessibility Initiative is an interagency partnership working to ensure the accessibility of federal electronic and information technology to individuals with disabilities. Section 508(b) of the Rehabilitation Act mandates GSA and the Access Board provide technical assistance to federal agencies concerning the requirements of section 508.
