Doan: Strategic Plan Is Key to GSA's FutureGSA # 10392 August 16, 2007 Washington, DC – The U.S. General Services Administration’s new strategic plan depicts a future filled with challenge and opportunity, but is also a statement of “who we are as an agency and what we stand for,” GSA Administrator Lurita Doan told the Blacks in Government National Training Conference this week. “The plan shows how we will use our procurement muscle and nearly 60 years of experience to build a successful future for our workforce and for our organization,” Administrator Doan told a GSA forum at the event in Nashville, Tennessee. “The plan spells out our priorities with respect to mission, vision, goals and emerging trends.” Playing on this year’s conference theme: “Challenges of a Changing Workplace,” Administrator Doan said, “I try to see each challenge as an opportunity to excel. So another way to approach BIG’s conference theme would be: discovering opportunities to excel in a changing workplace.” Administrator Doan was referring to sweeping organizational changes at GSA, such as the creation of the Federal Acquisition Service. The changes aim to provide total workplace solutions for the agency’s customers. The strategic plan identifies greater collaboration between FAS and the Public Buildings Service as one key to success. “The guiding principle behind this effort has been captured as, One GSA – One Voice,” Administrator Doan said. Administrator Doan also said she appreciated the non-profit Blacks in Government organization’s focus on personal growth and advancement. “This event stimulates personal development and professionalism, and it encourages us all to keep a sharp focus on achieving equality of opportunity,” she said. GSA’s commitment to diversity is reflected in its world-class workforce and in federal contract opportunities the agency sets aside for small businesses representing diverse socio-economic groups, Administrator Doan added. GSA’s Strategic Plan is posted on http://www.gsa.gov. ### Founded in 1949, GSA serves as a centralized procurement and property management agency for the federal government. GSA manages more than one-fourth of the government’s total procurement dollars and influences the management of $500 billion in federal assets, including 8,300 government-owned or leased buildings and 205,000 vehicles. GSA helps preserve our past and define our future, as a steward of more than 420 historic properties, and as manager of USA.gov, the official portal to federal government information and services. GSA’s mission to provide superior workplaces, expert technology solutions, acquisition services, purchasing and E-Gov travel solutions and management policies, at best value, allows federal agencies to focus on their core missions. Did You Know? To develop our workforce, GSA offers training programs to help employees perform their work. On-Line University is available to all GSA employees 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
