Administrator Names FAS' Coleman as Acting GSA CIOGSA #10366 June 26, 2007 Washington, DC – GSA Administrator Lurita Doan today announced Casey Coleman will serve as the Acting Chief Information Officer for the agency. Ms. Coleman has been serving as the first CIO of the new FAS organization when it was created in October of 2006. Previously she served for two years as the CIO for the GSA Federal Technology Service and also headed the GSA Office of Citizen Services from 2002 - 2004. "Casey Coleman has been a key player in the transformational change at the Federal Acquisition Service and she brings an incredible set of IT skills and management talents to this position. Her extensive experience in GSA senior management and successful projects makes her the right person for this critical position”, Administrator Doan said. Ms. Coleman is involved with the Federal IT community and is a board member of the Government Information Technology Executive Council. Coleman also championed a business process redesign of the Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) procurement process, with new supporting technology, reducing process time from over 100 days to less than 20 days. She was also named a 2007 recipient of Federal Computer Week’s “Fed 100” award. Ms. Coleman is a native Texan with a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree in business administration and finance from the University of Texas at Arlington. She will be the first woman to serve as GSA CIO. “I am very happy for Casey. She is an outstanding leader and will do a great job at the level of GSA CIO,” FAS Commissioner Jim Williams said. Ms. Coleman is replacing Mike Carleton, who is leaving GSA to join the Department of Health and Human Services as their Chief Information Officer and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Information Technology. Both positions are within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Resources and Technology. “Mike is a creative leader who has furthered the President’s Management Agenda eGov program through quality performance gains at GSA with enterprise architecture, compliance and customer service,” said Administrator Doan. Mr. Carleton joined GSA in June 2000 and has served since October 2000 as the principal advisor to the Administrator and all GSA offices on information technology and management. ### Founded in 1949, GSA serves as a centralized procurement and property management agency for the federal government. GSA manages more than one-fourth of the government’s total procurement dollars and influences the management of $500 billion in federal assets, including 8,300 government-owned or leased buildings and 205,000 vehicles. GSA’s mission to provide superior workplaces, expert technology solutions, acquisition services, purchasing and E-Gov travel solutions and management policies, at best value, allows federal agencies to focus on their core missions.
