Doan Applauds Treasury's Decision to Use NetworxGSA #10306 December 21, 2006 Washington, DC – On December 20, 2006, the U.S. Department of Treasury and the U.S. General Services Administration signed a memorandum of understanding for Treasury to use GSA’s Networx contract. "I'm very pleased with Treasury's decision. This clearly demonstrates that when GSA presents a solid business case, showing the savings to the American taxpayer, federal agencies will make the right decision," said GSA Administrator Lurita Doan. The Networx program will provide comprehensive, best-value telecommunications and networking services and technical solutions to all federal agencies and will serve as the primary replacement for the expiring FTS2001 and FTS2001 Crossover contracts and federal wireless contracts. "Networx will maximize the use of government resources by providing a common procurement infrastructure and a performance based approach that will embrace commercial technical and interface standards,” said GSA Federal Acquisition Service Commissioner Jim Williams. David Drabkin, Senior Procurement Advisor in the office of the Administrator said: "GSA's expertise is acquiring real property, personal property and services for our Federal customers. The decision by the Department of Treasury will further leverage the strength of the FAS Networx TELCOM contract and GSA's ability to deliver superior technology services for best value on schedule across the federal enterprise." Networx introduces new technology, new industry partners, and new ways to achieve a more efficient and effective government. It allows agencies to focus resources on building a seamless operating environment while GSA ensures agency access to the best technology industry has to offer. ### Founded in 1949, GSA serves as a centralized procurement and property management agency for the federal government. GSA manages more than one-fourth of the government’s total procurement dollars and influences the management of $500 billion in federal assets, including 8,300 government-owned or leased buildings and 170,000 vehicles. GSA helps preserve our past and define our future, acting as a steward of more than 420 historic properties, and as manager of FirstGov.gov, the official portal to federal government information and services. GSA’s mission to provide superior workplaces, expert technology solutions, acquisition services, purchasing and e-travel solutions and management policies, at best value, allows federal agencies to focus on their core missions. Did You Know? All prime contractors on Networx will be required to meet tough small business goals that will ensure significant subcontracting opportunities. GSA will monitor small business content and ensure that small business goals are met. Index of News Releases
