GSA Online Auction of Middle River Station Portends Area RedevelopmentGSA #10275 September 22, 2006 Washington D.C. – Today, the U.S. General Services Administration online auction of Middle River Station closed with a final bid of $37.5 million for the historic 1.9 million square foot facility. “GSA views the Middle River Station as a valuable asset and is pleased the bidders have confirmed that vision," said David L. Winstead, GSA's Commissioner for Public Buildings. "A refurbished Middle River Station can be truly catalytic to local and regional development, which, in turn, will bring significant economic benefits for the area’s inhabitants." Winstead went on to say that, “Indeed, the redevelopment of this GSA warehouse will play an important role in the continued revitalization of this area under the County’s new Renaissance Redevelopment Pilot Program. The former World War II Glenn L. Martin manufacturing plant sits on 50 acres strategically located near several main transportation arteries and is near a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay, only 13 miles northeast of the city of Baltimore. It is listed on the Maryland Historical Trust’s Register and is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. “Middle River Station and Baltimore County are ready for a development team that shares the County’s and community’s vision for a lively mix of business, residential and commercial uses in this historic building,” stated Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith. “We look forward to working with the winning bidder to make this vision reality.” GSA’s Office of Real Property Disposal managed the sale process of the Middle River Station. # # # GSA is a centralized, federal procurement, property management, policy development and information provision agency, created by Congress to improve government efficiency and help federal agencies better serve the public. In this role, GSA acquires products and services on behalf of federal agencies; plays a key role in developing and implementing government-wide policies; provides services and solutions for the office operations of more than one million federal workers; and encourages a citizen-centric relationship with government by providing a single "point of entry" to the information and services citizens need in a timeframe they can appreciate. This allows citizens to receive accurate, timely and consistent answers and information, and helps federal agencies better respond to citizen inquiries. Index of News Releases
