WASHINGTON – U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Acting Administrator James A. Williams has named Barnaby (Barney) L. Brasseux to serve as GSA’s Deputy Administrator effective September 21, 2008.  Brasseux has served as Deputy Commissioner of GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service (FAS) since May 30, 2007 and briefly assumed the role of Acting FAS Commissioner when Williams became GSA’s Acting Administrator August 30, 2008.

“The leadership skills, knowledge, and energy that Barney has demonstrated as Deputy Commissioner and Acting Commissioner of FAS give me great confidence in his ability to help me lead GSA in this role,” said Williams.  “GSA is fortunate to have Barney, a committed public servant, serve in this position on a permanent basis as we head into a Presidential transition.”

As FAS Acting Commissioner, Brasseux leads the delivery of approximately $48 billion of best-value services, products and solutions to federal customers that increase overall government effectiveness and efficiency.  He provides leadership to 4,000 FAS employees.

Brasseux has served GSA since 1993 in a continuing progression of senior leadership positions, including Assistant Commissioner for Travel, Motor Vehicle, and Card Services as well as Assistant Commissioner for Vehicle Acquisition and Leasing Services.  In addition, he previously served as Chief of Staff for GSA’s former Federal Supply Service.

Brasseux is a member of the career Senior Executive Service and received a Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive in 2007.  He attended Louisiana Tech University and Louisiana State University – Shreveport, where his studies concentrated in marketing and business administration.
