Recreation at Optima

Recreational activities allowed include wildlife observation and public hunting per special regulations. All hunting is restricted to shotgun or archery only. Special hunting regulations can be found in the public lands portion of the Oklahoma Hunting Guide. Fishing is not permitted on the Refuge.

The Optima Wildlife Management Area (WMA) encompasses 8,062 acres adjacent to the Refuge along the North Canadian (Beaver) River, including Optima Reservoir. This area is managed by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation and is open to public hunting.

The Corps of Engineers manages public use facilities including primitive camping sites and public restroom facilities on Optima WMA. Lodging is available nearby in Hooker and Guymon.
