Slide Presentation from the AHRQ 2007 Annual Conference

Tired of Waiting for a Doctor? Try the Drugstore

Text Description is below the image.

Image from The New York Times—girl in a stroller and dad at the receptionist counter. The caption underneath the photograph reads: "Eve Linney, 5, who had an infected finger, went with her family last week to a walk-in clinic at Duane Reade drugstore on Broadway in Manhattan. Her father, John, is at the counter." The photograph and article was published August 29, 2007. The author was Sarah Kershaw, and the photographer Richard Perry.

Notes:

According to this NY Times article from last month (August 2007) ...

As an example of how these work, Duane Reade, a pharmacy chain with stores on just about every corner in Manhattan, plans to open as many as 60 stores over the next 14 to 18 months. Unlike most RBCs, which use NPs or PAs as clinicians, will use physicians. Also of great interest, the Duane Reade RBCs linked with the parent company of St. Lukes-Roosevelt and Beth Israel Medical Centers. This gives the Duane Reade patients and doctors streamlined access to subspecialists and the emergency departments of these medical meccas.
