As an example of how these work, Duane Reade, a pharmacy chain with stores on just about every corner in Manhattan, plans to open as many as 60 stores over the next 14 to 18 months. Unlike most RBCs, which use NPs or PAs as clinicians, will use physicians. Also of great interest, the Duane Reade RBCs linked with the parent company of St. Lukes-Roosevelt and Beth Israel Medical Centers. This gives the Duane Reade patients and doctors streamlined access to subspecialists and the emergency departments of these medical meccas.
