The Roadway Design Division of
the Mississippi Department of Transportation has reviewed the Draft Guidelines
for Accessible Rights-of Way. We have also reviewed the AASHTO
"Comments and Recommendations on the Draft Guidelines for
Accessible Public Rights-of Way" adopted by resolution of the AASHTO
Board of Directors on October 14, 2002 and are in agreement with all comments,
with the following exception:
Regarding Section 1102.3 (Alternate Circulation Paths), AASHTO recommends a
minimum time period for access route closure be specified for which the
construction of an alternate circulation path would be required, such as
"closures that last for a period of 24 hours or greater" or "closures which last
overnight." We feel that this minimum time period should be longer, such as
"five working days" or "one week."
If additional information or clarification is needed, please advise.
