Research Project: SOUTHWESTERN PECAN RESEARCH

Location: SE Fruit & Tree Nut Research Lab

2006 Annual Report

4d.Progress report.
This report serves to document research conducted under a specific cooperative agreement between ARS and New Mexico State University. Additional details of research can be found in the report for the parent project 6606-21220-009-00D (Pecan Horticulture and Disease Research). Progress to date indicates expanded understanding regarding nitrogen fertilizer management in pecan orchards, with emphasis on late-season applications. It was found that late-season application of N, near the end of kernel filling, was a time period in which most of the applied N ended up in the tree. The work supports the notion of late season N applications to orchards and supports the notion that pecan trees possess a late season demand for N.
