Research Project:
JOINT PURCHASE OF SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPES
Location: Application Technology Research Unit
2007 Annual Report
1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
To provide funding between the parties for the purchase of a cold field emission-scanning electron microscope (CFE) and a variable pressure-scanning electron microscope (VP-SEM).
1b.Approach (from AD-416)
Funding for the CFE will be by ARS and funding for VP-SEM will be by OARDC-OSU.
3.Progress Report
This report serves to document research conducted under a Non Funded Cooperative Agreement between ARS and Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, The Ohio State University. Additional details can be found in the report for the parent project 3607-21620-006-00D Biological, Microclimate, and Transport Processes Affecting Pest Control Application Technology.
This agreement authorizes ARS to house a cold-field emission scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive x-ray analytical and accessories to conduct the indicated research in the state-owned facility, the Molecular and Cellular Imaging Center. The cold-field emission scanning electron microscope is being used to detect disease casual agents and to track pesticide coverage. The latter will help explain the basis for efficacy.
