Notice Regarding Use of Social Security Numbers on Subpoenas
August 26, 2005
When issuing subpoenas, the Office of Administrative Law Judges has never required Social Security numbers to be included on subpoena forms. Some parties have begun adding these numbers to their subpoena applications. OALJ will not issue subpoenas which have Social Security numbers appearing on the subpoena form. If a party submits a subpoena to an ALJ for approval, and that subpoena bears a Social Security number, OALJ will either reject the subpoena or redact the Social Security number.
