OSHA and South Florida Associated General Contractors Team Up for Safer Construction Jobs
Partnership Ceremony Set for July 6 in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), South Florida Chapter, are launching a partnership to improve safety and health at construction sites. A signing ceremony will take place Wednesday, July 6, at OSHA's area office in Jacksonville.

Under the partnership OSHA and the AGC will work together to achieve an annual three percent reduction in injury and illness rates. They also will implement safety and health management systems at partners' job sites and safety training for managers, supervisors and employees.

The partnership expands agreements that the AGC, South Florida Chapter, has with OSHA's area offices in Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa. Nine construction companies currently participate in the partnership.

AGC's safety programs assist member companies in developing better safety and health management systems. Classes offered by AGC include: the OSHA 10-hour construction safety and health course, fall protection, safe scaffolding, excavation and trenching practices and other safety-related topics. All classes are offered in English and Spanish.
