Research Project: DIETARY, PHYSIOLOGICAL, AND BEHAVIORAL PREDICTORS OF WEIGHT GAIN IN A HEALTHY, YOUNG, ETHNICALLY-MIXED POPULATION

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to identify risk factors in obesity through a long-range study of young adults.

Approach:
A prospective, longitudinal, clinical study of healthy, young, ethnically-mixed men and women aged 20-35 with a body mass index of less than 27 at baseline and 1, 2, or no obese parents will be conducted for 10 years. Determinants of weight gain will be identified through comprehensive assessment of health, diet, behavior, biological factors, and demographics.
