Linking Girls to the Land
Linking Girls to the Land (LGTTL) is a partnership between Girl Scouts of the USA's Elliott Wildlife Values Project and federal natural resourceagencies, initiatives and partnering organizations. LGTTL bulids girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. As part of the Gilr Scout Leadership Experience, over 35,000 girls each year work collaboratively with federal natural resource agencies to develop leadership skills through girl-led, learning by doing, and cooperative learning actvities that help them:
- Discover a strong sense of self, positive values, and an understanding of their important role in caring for the environment and our Earth's natural resources
- Connect with nature, the outdoors and their local and global communities
- Take Action to identify community and environmental needs, positively impact the environment and educate and inspire others to act as stewards of our Earth
Started in 1995, the LGTTL partnership offers travel opportunities, funding, awards, resources, and trainings to support this vision.
LGTTL Program Objectives
- Develop Girl Scouts as leaders and stewards of conservation and natural resources who plan, implement, and participate in projects related to environmental education, outdoor skills development, and action and service learning.
- Encourage Girl Scouts to explore careers in environmental, outdoor, and science fields
- Create postive environmental impact or improvement on the natural land or water resources
- Strengthen federal natural resource agency participation in the Girl Scout Leadership Development Program by developing environmental and outdoor-related programs and helping girls work towards Girl Scout Bronze, Silver, and Gold Award projects
- Encourage councils and federal natural resource agencies to develop meaningful and sustainable conservation-related projects
