Opening New Doors... A campaign for our students

Dean's Message

To continue to meet the evolving needs of teachers and educators, we are "Opening New Doors" by adding a large courtyard and entrance to the south-side, one in which our students, faculty and staff, alumni, and friends can be proud to enter.  The renovations will add a new walkway, a wider and easily-accessible stairwell, large benches, stone pillars, and tables with shaded areas; in addition, much-needed lighting, landscaping, and a bike rack will be installed.  Other enhancements will include outdoor wireless access, multiple covered areas, and a seating area to add an informal educational environment for students.

I hope you will consider being a part of our most ambitious renovation project in more than 30 years as this would be the first outside renovation since the Education building opened in 1972.  The planned courtyard will be funded almost entirely through private sources and will create a safer, more accessible entrance and add needed informal educational space.  Our goal to complete the project by August 2009 is ambitious but attainable; although close to $250,000 of the project's $600,000 has already been secured, your support remains essential.  You can participate through the purchase of a "paver" brick or other naming opportunities.  A gift of any amount is sincerely appreciated.  For more information, call 816-235-2466.

We appreciate any financial support from our alumni, community partners, and friends to help make this structure a reality.  On behalf of the School of Education, I look forward to welcoming you into our new doors and the superb work being done beyond them.
