Land Subject to Coastal Storm Flowage Loss

Summary:

The need to assess and analyze patterns of repetitively damaged properties along the Massachusetts coast relative to flood zones and erosion rates.

Investigators:

Principal: E. Robert Thieler (rthieler@usgs.gov)

Objectives:

The purpose of this research will be to collect nformation regarding repetitively damaged properties along the Massachusetts coast and analyze patterns of damage relative to follor zones, erosion rates, landform thpe, and the degree of exposure (open coast vs. protected area).

End date of project:

May 30, 2004

Approach:

collect information. GIS maps.

Impact/Results:

The program will provide scientifically based recommendations to CZM, the Massachusetts Land Subject to Coastal Storm Flowage Task Force and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection regarding potential policy changes.
