Research Project: MANAGEMENT OF PARROTFEATHER (MYRIOPHYLLUM AQUATICUM) AND WATERPRIMROSE (LUDWIGIA SPP) IN THE SAN JOAQUIN RIVER

Location: Exotic and Invasive Weeds Research

Project Number: 5325-22000-019-09
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Sep 22, 2006
End Date: Dec 31, 2009

Objective:
Delineate and georeference (presence/absence, biomass) infestations of target invasive species, Myriophyllum aquatium and Ludwigia spp., in relation to the San Joaquin River system. Investigate and evaluate management methods (herbicidal and biological control) for target species using field and laboratory scale methods in cooperation with state and federal agencies. Provide recommendations on sustainable management practices that integrate broad, long-term restoration projects within the San Joaquin River system.

Approach:
Seasonal (monthly) phenological changes in target species will be determined using transect/quadrat sampling coupled with remote (aerial) and ground level (boats) surveys. Efficacy of registered herbicides and related (water) residues will be evaluated in field and outdoor cultures. Potential efficacy and feasibility of introduced host-specific biological control agents for M. aquatium and Ludwigia spp. will made through normal review, quarantine, and release protocols and procedures. Documents Reimbursable with Bureau of Reclamation. 425 Log 32353.
