Research Project: EXPLORATION FOR NATURAL ENEMIES OF INVASIVE SPECIES ORIGINATING FROM CHINA AND SURROUNDING AREAS
2004 Annual Report

4.What were the most significant accomplishments this past year?
This report serves to document research conducted under a specific cooperative agreement between ARS and the Chinese Academt of Agricultural Sciences (sponsor of the Sino-American Biolgocial Control Laboratory). Focus was on biological control of Asian Long-horned beetle(ALB), a major insect pest that has invaded the Northeastern U.S. from China. Certain sub-species or varities of maple trees proved to be extremely attractive to the beetles in China. These trees were tagged as "sentinal" trees and some have been prepared for shipment to the U.S. for further research by the ARS Beneficial Insect Introduction Laboratory in Newark, DE.
