2004 Annual Report
4.What were the most significant accomplishments this past year?
This report serves to document research conducted under a non-funded cooperative agreement between ARS and Northwest Horticulture. Additional details of research can be found in the report of the parent CRIS 0500-00007-063-00D ¿Herbicide Efficacy and Residue Studies in Pacific Northwest Minor Acreage Crops¿. Research was conducted to develop new pest control tools in ornamental crops, which is often not cost effective for industry leaving a shortage of available tools for growers to use. The ARS, IR-4 unit at Prosser, WA and NWHorticulture, Mabton, WA cooperated to collect and submit data required to establish registrations for 3 minor use herbicides based on 15 field trials. Completed trials include dithiopyr, clopyralid, and flumioxazin herbicides tested on fourteen plant species (daylily, speedwell, purple coneflower, gaura, bluestar, cardinal flower, Jacob¿s-ladder, alumroot, phlox, fleabane, peppermint, angel hair, sage, and ribbon grass). The completed research will support new registrations of these herbicides in the tested ornamental crops.
