Research Project: BELTWIDE COLLECTION OF BOLLWORM AND TOBACCO BUDWORM MOTHS IN TRAPS FOR MONITORING STUDIES FOR TOLERANCE AND RESISTANCE IN BT COTTON

Location: Southern Insect Management Research Unit

2007 Annual Report

1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
The objective of this cooperative research project is to collect populations of the cotton bollworm and tobacco budworm to be evaluated for resistance to Bt insecticides.

1b.Approach (from AD-416)
At each of the sites in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia adult moths of the tobacco budworms and cotton bollworms will be collected and sent to USDA-ARS-SIMRU during the entire growing season.

3.Progress Report
This report serves to document research conducted under a Specific Cooperative Agreement between North Carolina State University and ARS. Additional details for this subordinate project may be found in the in-house project 6402-22000-047-00D, “Resistance Management and Injury Potential of Lepidopterous Pests to Transgenic Cottons.” Results in 2006 showed no change in susceptibility of field-collected moths versus laboratory, Bt-susceptible insects to proteins expressed by Bt cotton. The methods used to monitor this agreement was meetings at the Cotton Beltwide Conferences and Entomological Society of America Annual Meeting in addition, to one conference call and two site visit.
