Several voting district names in Jackson, Platte, and St. Louis Counties, Missouri are incorrect in Record Type C of the Redistricting Census 2000 TIGER/Line files. The misspelling of a voting district name in St. Louis County resulted in two separate voting districts appearing in the Redistricting Census 2000 TIGER/Line. After correcting the spelling of the voting district name for VTD 231 in St. Louis County, voting districts 231 and 232 have identical names and should be a single voting district. The correct names are provided as an ASCII text file (movtd.txt) and as separate ASCII files for each county (Jackson, vd29095.era Platte, vd29165.era and St. Louis vd29189.era) using the Record Type C record layout. Errata Note 15:  Maricopa County, Arizona - Topological Error

The U.S. Census Bureau has discovered a topological error in the Maricopa County, Arizona Redistricting Census 2000 TIGER/Line file. We have tested the Redistricting Census 2000 TIGER/Line file for Maricopa County with two of the more popular translators for use in Geographic Information Systems, and have found that the translators work correctly and provide the correct geographic area codes for the polygons.

As a result of correcting this topological error, there will be an additional polygon in the Census 2000 TIGER/Line file for Maricopa County (04013) and one line segment will have a different TIGER/Line Identification Number (TLID).

The CENID-POLYID C1204-20350 appears in two polygons (a topological error). The error occurs in part of census tract 5231.04, block 5003.

In the Redistricting Census 2000 TIGER/Line file, the following TLIDs bound the polygon that will be corrected in the Census 2000 TIGER/Line file:

128805586
128805584
128805585

In the Census 2000 TIGER/Line file, there will be an additional CENID-POLYID of C1204-73969 that will be bounded by the following TLIDs:

128832503
128805584
128805585

User Note 1:  Ohio - State Legislative Districts

For Census 2000, states were afforded the opportunity to define their state legislative districts (upper and lower chambers) using their actual boundaries. The state of Ohio participated in this optional component of the program by providing approximated legislative districts. For further information regarding Ohio's submission please contact the Census 2000 Redistricting Data Office at (301) 457-4039 or via e-mail at RDO@census.gov.

User Note 3:  Congressional Districts

The congressional district codes in this TIGER/Line file found in the Record Types listed below may contain errors and should NOT be used. These codes were improperly extracted from the internal Census TIGER data base.

Record Type A, Field CD106
Record Type S, Field CDCU

We suggest that data users build the 106th Congressional District layer in their spatial data base by using the information in the geographic header of the Public Law 94-171 data files when they become available. This can be accomplished by matching the state-county-census tract-census block codes between your Redistricting Census 2000 TIGER/Line based system and the state-county-census tract-census block-106th Congressional District codes in the P.L. 94-171 data file.

The extraction of the 106th Congressional District codes will be corrected for the production of the Census 2000 TIGER/Line files later this Spring.

User Note 4:  Mismatch - P.L. 94-171 Geographic Header Information and Redistricting Census 2000 TIGER/Line files

The Geographic Header files released with the redistricting data for each state have some fields that are not always completely filled by their required content, listed below. All of these fields are left-justified in the P.L. 94-171 data files, but only the NAME field should have been left-justified. All of the other fields should have been right-justified. This would match their presentation in the Redistricting Census 2000 TIGER/Line files, for the fields that represent a code or nominal value identifying a geographic area (VTD, SLDU, SLDL, and TAZ), and allow unambiguous interpretation of the fields that represent integer values (AREALAND, AREAWATR, and POP100). The formatting will be corrected starting with the Summary File 1 (SF1) and Summary File 2 (SF2) state files.

User Note 5:  Louisiana - Voting Districts

The Louisiana Legislature reviewed the voting districts as provided to the state in the Redistricting Census 2000 TIGER/Line files for the Louisiana parishes and has determined that there are some discrepancies. Based upon these discrepancies, the Louisiana Legislature has made technical corrections to the voting districts of several parishes to accurately represent the precinct geography of the state of Louisiana. The following parishes had technical corrections made to their voting districts: Acadia, Bienville, Bossier, Calcasieu, East Baton Rouge, Grant, Jefferson, Lafourche, Madison, Orleans, Ouachita, Pointe Coupee, Richland, St. Bernard, St. Landry, Terrebonne, and West Feliciana. The Louisiana State Data Center maintains equivalency files for these parishes for those interested in the corrections that were made.
