2007 National Crime Victims' Rights Week The honorees received special recognition during the awards ceremony hosted April 20, 2007, by the Office for Victims of Crime to honor victim advocates, organizations, and programs in the field of victim services.

ADT Security Services AWARE Since 1992, ADT Security Services, Inc., has offered a lifesaving program to help decrease incidents of domestic violence. The ADT AWARE ® program, which stands for Abused Women's Active Response Emergency, is active in more than 177 communities nationwide and is credited with helping save the lives of more than 31 victims of domestic violence. This program has given many other victims the means and peace of mind to escape an abusive partner. The ADT AWARE ® program is a coordinated effort among ADT Security Services, local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors' offices, domestic violence shelters and social service agencies. Through the AWARE ® Program, ADT provides home security systems and emergency necklace pendants free of charge to domestic violence victims for as long as the need exists. Participants are screened for eligibility by partnering community organizations and must meet three basic criteria: the victim must be in imminent danger of attack; have a restraining order or other active order of protection against the abuser; and be willing to prosecute and testify against the batterer in court if the batterer is apprehended as a result of the use of the ADT system. The program has made significant strides in giving victims much-needed security, while bringing professional, volunteer, and support staff relief in knowing that victims of domestic violence have an increased chance of survival. Dr. Randall L. Brown Dr. Randall L. Brown is the medical director of the Baton Rouge Rape Crisis Center. For the past 25 years, he has selflessly dedicated himself to the care of sexual assault victims. He has examined over 1,000 victims of sexual assault in his career. He has published articles in national medical journals on the appropriate care of sexual assault victims and trained countless medical residents, physicians, and nurses on the proper technique for collection of forensic evidence. Dr. Brown created an award-winning training video that has been used for the past 10 years by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists to educate physicians and nurses in 15 countries, about the critical process of forensic evidentiary examinations of rape victims. He is the only gynecologist in the United States who has been elected to membership in the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. Dr. Brown is also the only Obstetrician/Gynecologist (OB/GYN) in the nation who has received training as a forensic odontologist. He is always willing to treat victims in his private practice, if they do not wish to go to hospital emergency departments for care. Dr. Brown maintains the highest standard of confidentiality when working within this sensitive process. The Louisiana Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program in Baton Rouge would not be as successful as it is without his continuing support.
