Four Additional Counties Approved for Disaster Unemployment Assistance
TALLAHASSEE– Pursuant to Governor Charlie Crist’s requests for federal individual assistance, the Agency for Workforce Innovation has worked closely with the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) to receive Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) to help the people of Florida recover from Tropical Storm Fay. Individuals in eight counties remain eligible for DUA, including those in recently-approved Bradford, Clay, Madison and Taylor Counties. read more...

Florida’s September Employment Figures Released
TALLAHASSEE –Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for September 2008 is 6.6 percent. This represents 613,000 jobless out of a labor force of 9,338,000. The unemployment rate remains the same as the revised August rate of 6.6 percent and is up 2.4 percentage points from the September 2007 rate. read more...

23 Florida Counties Now Approved for Disaster Unemployment Assistance
TALLAHASSEE – Pursuant to Governor Charlie Crist's requests for federal individual assistance, the Agency for Workforce Innvovation has worked closely with the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) to receive Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) to help people from Florida recover from Tropical Storm Fay. Floridians in the following 23 counties are now eligible to receive more than $7.7 million in DUA: Alachua, Baker, Brevard, Collier, Duval, Gadsden, Glades, Hendry, Jefferson, Lake, Lee, Leon, Liberty, Marion, Martin, Nassau, Okeechobee, Orange, Polk, Seminole, St. Lucie, Volusia and Wakulla.  Funding may be requested for additional counties as further damage assessments are made. read more...

 

Early Learning Services

AWI's Office of Early Learning is responsible for implementation of the state's Child Care Resource and Referral, School Readiness, and Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) programs. Florida's VPK program includes high reading and writing standards, strict accountability, appropriate curricula, substantial instruction periods, manageable class sizes and qualified instructors.

Through the unemployment insurance program, AWI provides temporary wage replacement benefits to those who have lost their job through no fault of their own. Unemployed workers can use the Employ Florida Marketplace to find their next job or career field.
